With winter approaching Laurie & Heidi headed off to the Little Desert in NW Victoria. With Australia celebrating the Queens Birthday weekend, it meant that we had a 3 day break to take in the sand & muddy conditions in the Lt Desert National Park.

Ten vehicles made the long 500km journey to the sleepy town of Natimuk which lies near the SE corner of the park. Lake Natimuk has not seen water for 10 years, so it was great to see the creek running into it at the caravan park.

Our journey started with a climb of Mitre Rock, which overlooks Mitre Lake & the National Park. Mt Arapiles is mecca for mountain climbers so we headed up to the summit for morning tea. Many of the convoy took the short walk to the viewing platform to take in the sensational views of Mitre Rock & the surrounds.

The rest of the weekend was spent 4WDing along sandy tracks in the National Park as well as some very boggy sections. The boggy sections were caused by 30mm of rain having fallen in the preceding weeks to break a 7 year drought.
