Who is Zebra400?

Outback travels for Heidi & Laurie started way back in 1989 in their 2.4lt Diesel 4runner. Their 1st big adventure was to Kakadu & the Gibb River Road at the southern end of the Kimberleys in NW Australia.

In 1993 they upgraded to a white Landcruiser 80 Series with black side rails, thus the callsign of Zebra aka Zebra400.

Visiting the extremities of the Australian mainland, they have experienced the most northerly point of the Australian mainland at the tip of Cape York & the most easterly point at Byron Bay & the most southerly point at Wilson's Promontory.

Central Australian trips have taken them into the Simpson Desert, Lambert's Gravitational Centre of Australia & the Macdonald Ranges (east & west), as well a climb to the top of Uluru (Ayers Rock) & a bush walk thru the inspiring Olgas.

2001/2 was a memorable time for both of us - living, working & holidaying in Finland. Whilst based near Helsinki, we found time to travel through the other Nordic countries of Sweden, Norway, Denmark & Iceland.

Being so close, trips were also taken to St Petersberg in Russia, Tallinn in Estonia plus a weekend in Ireland . This overseas trip of a lifetime, also gave us time to catch with Heidi's relatives in Germany & Laurie's relatives in Sweden & friends in the UK.

2007, Zebra400 travelled to Western Australia on the Indian Pacific. The train runs from Australia's east coast in Sydney to Perth on the west coast and crosses the spectacular Nullarbor Plateau.

2008 saw Laurie & Heidi doing some 4WDing & MTBing through the picturesque Flinders Ranges in South Australia followed by a revisit to the exciting mountainous coast of SE NSW.

2009 started out badly with Laurie falling off the roof. He fractured 7 ribs & punctured his lung. After a stint in intensive care & very strong pain killers, he was back to his normal self.

2010 took us north to celebrate a family wedding in Tamworth. Heidi linked in some MTBing on parts of the bi-centennial trail. Heidi also enjoyed some MTBing around Mt Buller.

2011 started with a visit to Marysville. Much of the town was burnt down on Black Saturday (Feb 2009). We also revisited many 4WD haunts via club run trips. Our big trip this year was exploring the Kimberely in NW Australia.

2012 Apart from running 6 weekend trips to the High Country, we headed back to WA to explore historic Canning Stock Route.

2013 This was a quiet year at home, apart from runnung 7 weekend trips to the High Country.

2014 A must on our travel plans was Arnhem Land. This six week adventure to Australia's far north was frought with adventure & danger. We will be posting some pics soon.

2015 Our plan is to head into Northern Territory & travel the iconic Hay River track. With 10 club trips also planned, this year will be full of 4WD excitement.

Oh yes, during the week, Heidi is busy directing a team of SW Engineers while Laurie takes on the elements as he motors around on his Honda CT110 delivering mail for Australia Post.
