Heidi clearing Trig Track before our descent

Aberfeldy Adventure

With the weather pleasantly cool for December, we started 8 vehicles frim the lovely quiet village of Erica. Erica is nestled at the foor of the Baw Baw plateau (a great spot for cross counrty skiing in the winter).

Our journey headed east to the old mining town of Coopers Creek. Here we explored the remains of the old Cooper Mine on the edge of the Thomson River.

Our journey headed north, rising up the Mormon track, before joining the Woods Point Walhalla Road. The Army track was our next adventure with some great 4WDing to negotiate.

Flats track (a steep 4WD track) took us down to O'Tooles Flat for our evening campfire.Santa arrived during the evening on the back of a Hilux, presenting gifts to the little ones in our convoy.

The sun shone on Sunday morn as we headed further north up to Mt Useful at 1,430M. The sun was out, but a cool breeze made us reach for our warm jackets. Some more exciting 4WDing took us south along Toomstar track before checking out the old Toombon mine.

With our trip almost over, we took on the slippery rocky Steep Track (aptly named!). Those with diff-locks tried their skills on the old parts of the track. Our last thrill was to head down Trig Track. This is a steep track with 12 switchbacks. The passengers put their life in their drivers hands as they look at the steep descent on every switchback.

After a quick dip in the Aberfeldy River, it was time to air up the tyres and head home across the Thomson Dam wall.
